All Students are eligible to take Student Membership of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and to work towards Accreditation, or Membership of UKCP, working towards Registration. (See BACP at www.bacp.co.uk and UKAHPP at www.ahpp.org for further information.)
In addition, many Students elect to have a second Membership with the British Register of Complementary Practitioners (BRCP), applying for Full Membership of the Psychotherapy Division after Graduation, and/or the Healer-Counsellor Division. The BRCP is the Registration division of the ICNM (Institute for Complementary and Natural Medicine) – for further details see www.icnm.org.uk
Professional indemnity insurance is available with BRCP Student (and Full) Membership through Balens Ltd. at a reasonable rate. Cover can be included for healing practice, teaching and supervision if required.
Regulation for Counsellors and Psychotherapists is currently under national review in the UK, and SOPH is registered to receive information about this from the relevant committees.
Since we are a holistic course which includes healing practice, our Students and Graduates benefit from the further professional option of Practitioner status through the BRCP Register, which places their work within the complementary medicine field as well as the more traditional counselling and psychotherapy. We are pleased to recommend this dual professional status as a singular advantage for our Students and Graduates.
